Scope: The new Renaissance Hotel at Patriot Place in Foxborough, Mass., anchors 1.3 million square feet (120,770 m2) of shopping, entertainment and commercial space. Located adjacent to Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, the five-story, four-star hotel and spa offers a distinctive personality and dramatic views of the stadium.

Details: Metl-Span, Lewisville, Texas, supplied approximately 20,000 square feet (1,858 m2) of its CFA Architectural insulated wall panels in Cool Metallic Silver. The 2 1/2-inch- (64-mm-) thick panels were installed horizontally by Barnes Buildings & Management Group Inc., Weymouth, Mass. Pro Con Inc., Hooksett, N.H., was the design-build firm on the project.

“The project was facing some budget issues and Pro Con was looking for ways to save money throughout the job,” said Barnes Buildings & Management Group President Marty Barnes.

“Pro Con was aware of a previous job we did using Metl-Span panels that had a similar look to what they wanted for the hotel. We went through the design details of the CFA panels and Pro Con decided they had the first class image that was needed.”

PCI Architecture, a division of Pro Con, was the architect. “We took our design cues from Gillette Stadium and the adjoining Patriot Place,” said Matt Wirth, project manager with PCI Architecture. “The one-piece construction of the Metl-Span panels was a benefit because the Massachusetts energy code requires putting the insulation to the outside.”

“The wall assembly provided all of the insulation value needed to meet code,” Barnes said.
