Rooftop Solar

Conserval Engineering Inc.’s SolarDuct line of rooftop solar air heating and photovoltaic/thermal systems is our readers’ choice for top new product. Based on the highly efficient SolarWall system, the technology has been engineered for roof settings and applications where a traditional wall-mounted system is not feasible.

SolarDuct uses similar technology as the original SolarWall to reduce on-site energy costs by heating ventilation air before it enters the air-handling units. The patented system of an all-metal collector panel is designed for flat-roof commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. SolarDuct can also be used for PV/thermal cogeneration to reduce the return-on-investment timeframe for a PV system. With a SolarDuct PV/T system, the all-metal SolarWall panels double as the racking system while also removing heat from the back of the PV modules and using it to offset a building’s heating load. Conserval expects the new modular product line to meet the increased market demand for cost-effective solar systems using proven technology.

“We are excited to be in a position to expand the solar air heating and PV/thermal markets with our new innovative rooftop systems,” said John Hollick, president of Conserval and inventor of the SolarWall technology. “Our company has used our expertise platform to develop and design new solar products that will provide increased flexibility for clients looking to integrate renewable energy solutions on their buildings.”

The SolarWall technology has received commendation from both Natural Resources Canada and the U.S. Department of Energy and has been used in 30 countries around the world by private and public sector organizations, like the U.S. Army, Canadian Government, NASA, Ford, Federal Express, Wal-Mart and 3M.
